Day 5 of Camp

Captain's Log June 22, 2018-Ogden Dunes/ Marquette Trail

Our final day of camp we partnered with the Calumet Artist Residency and contributed to the Gary Poetry Project.

 
The campers helped weed the Lagoon Outlook Garden at Marquette Park in Gary’s Miller Community.
 Then we had a debriefing session where the campers presented their initial findings to their friends and family. Thank you to Miller Pizza for the dinner donation!
Our campers are from Gary, Griffith, Munster, Porter and Valpo.
 
They will conduct service based learning across Lake, Porter and La Porte Counties. They will showcase these projects to the public on Saturday, October 13 from 4-6pm at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts.

Gear and Flame Week Fall 2018

Lagoon Outlook Garden Ribbon Cutting

Our Northern Lights Eco Adventures campers had fun volunteering in the #LagoonOutlookGarden in Marquette Park Gary this summer.  The Volunteer Office for Community Accessibility Resource, and Training is seeking volunteers for several projects. Over the course of 2017 and 2018 volunteers have been working on creating an accessible garden at Marquette Park Lagoon. The idea of creating an accessible garden came as a natural continuation of the commitment Gary’s Miller Spotlight’s transportation and infrastructure action group, Access Miller, has to creating a life-long community for all. Adventure Awaits

(Kids biking the Marquette Trail in Gary, Indiana.) Adventure Awaits in the Summer of 2018 Northern Lights Eco Adventures summer of 2018 will be piloting our first Region Service Expedition. This will encompass four nights and five days of a expedition through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Northwest Indiana. The campers will start in Michigan City and end at the Douglas center. The campers will be backpacking/paddling/and biking through the dunes and beach while learning about the local ecosystems and natural history of the community. The students will also participate in a local service project and community art project. By the end of the trip the students will create a goa l with a action plan of a service project they will conduct in their home community.
